Progress Update - June '16 & Anime Expo
– Tue, Jun 21, 2016 at 09:59:15 PM
Hey everyone,
Shortish update again, but we do have a question: what kind of updates would you guys like to see from us? We intentionally refrain from posting story details and such to avoid spoilers, but at the same time we know it gets kind of boring just reading the same old "business as usual" updates. We're open to suggestions if you've got 'em, though.
Otherwise though, here are a couple new, colored sprites. Currently, Myuto's working on those at the same time as he's working on side character designs. I may have mentioned it before, but we'll have at least half a dozen important side characters - probably closer to a dozen.
If you're going to be at Anime Expo this year, you might see us around. The majority of Alienworks will be there, including our newest artist Katzchen. In fact, she just completed an R-18 HRP doujin, which will be for sale at Sekai Project's table. Additionally, we'll have a few copies of Rosuuri's artbook "Luminosity" available, although stock is super limited.
Lastly, we have a really cool suprise regarding HRP, which we'll be announcing at or around the Sekai Project panel. We'll post about it on here, too, once the news is out.
Finally, just a couple days ago, we released our first full game, the yuri game "Highway Blossoms" onto Steam! HB is a kinetic novel, which means there aren't any choices in it. The story revolves around two girls on a roadtrip through the American Southwest together, hunting for treasure. Most of the HRP art team worked on it, as well as Weee (best known for her work on Katawa Shoujo). You can grab it on Steam for $9.99, though it's on sale until June 24th for 15% off.
May Update

Hi everyone,
Pretty quick update today, but we didn't want to go too long without posting one.
Writing is moving along pretty steadily, with a few scenes being completed every week. It's hard to give a completion estimate until we're farther along, but we're well into the hundreds of thousands of words. For context, the demo was about 55,000 words. Even though it's long, we're trying not to pack the story with too much fluff or filler. Pacing is something we'll definitely be improving on from the demo.
Other than that, Myuto has been working on the new sprite upgrades. These are the third times they've been revised, and will be the second time Myuto has done them. It'll probably be the last time, though! There's a sketch at the bottom for one of Yukino's. We'll post the colored version when it's done.
In other news, we've started fulfilling the custom backer reward drawings from the higher level tiers. Katzchen has been powering through some of them, and Myuto will be working on the others once he's finished with moving.
Finally, most of us will be at Anime Expo again this year. We're not selling much merchandise, but if all goes well, we'll have a cool announcement for the con. Hopefully we'll see some of you there!
"March" Update
– Sat, Apr 02, 2016 at 08:39:22 PM
Sorry this one is a little bit late. We were waiting for a couple things to finish up. Anyway, pretty short update again this time around.
Writing is progressing pretty steadily. Right now, Shion's route has the highest number of scenes completed, though I think Setsuna has the highest word count. A couple of us are a little on the slow side this month because of midterms and soon finals, but progress should speed up dramatically once this semester is over.
We do have some new music previews: one from each of the guys.
Mondo claims that the drum part in his newest song, "Safehouse," is actually playable by a real person, but I'm not sure that I believe him.
Tim's piece, "Vinyl," is a little easier on the wrists to play. Both musicians have been working more on the jazzy stuff for now, but the electronic songs are still to come.
Sadly, it's kind of hard to show off any programming stuff without spoiling lots. I can say that Kevin has been experimenting a lot with the Ren'Py engine in our yuri game Highway Blossoms, as practice for when it comes time to put together HRP. If you're into cute yuri, HB should be out within the next couple months.
Finally, as far as HRP art goes, once again there's not too much we can show without spoiling things. Soon we'll be working on figuring out the side character designs. There are upwards of a dozen of those, including two adorable little sisters. Any guesses as to whose?
But because we didn't wanna leave you totally empty-handed, here's Senri at home. Shion takoyaki needs to be a thing.
One last thing: I wanted to give a shoutout to a cool VN currently funding on IndieGoGo. It's a boys' love/yaoi game called Monstrous Lovers, where all the love interests are based off of classic movie monsters. Also, the theme song is performed by the legendary Aurelio Voltaire, so that's pretty much reason enough to check it out in my opinion.
February Update
– Thu, Feb 11, 2016 at 07:57:11 PM
Hey everyone, got a few things today.
We'll start with the big news first. Hitomi's writer, Red_B, has chosen to step down from writing due to some personal troubles going on. He'll still be helping out with editing and other stuff like that, but won't be writing the actual route anymore.
But the new guy is just as good. Stepping up to take Red's place will be Vogue, best known as the writer and the director of the Starcraft 2 VN. If you're interested in that, you can download the game for free off of Steam. No prior knowledge of Starcraft or eSports is needed to enjoy it - the game does a great job of introducing you to both.
Now for happier art stuff. First up, it's not really news, but Rosuuri recently completed a pretty cute Yukino CG. There aren't any spoilers in it, so we figured we could show it as a taste of things to come.
Besides that, the character design upgrades continue. Just yesterday, Myuto finished a new design for our protagonist, Ken. He's a little less hip-hop and a lot more burnt-out looking now. While his personality and characterization won't be changing a whole lot from what you're already familiar with, we wanted a look that was more in line with his dead-end job and rather bleak lifestyle.
As far as HRP news goes, that's about all that we've got right now. We don't post a whole lot about our other upcoming title, the short yuri game Highway Blossoms, but we're looking to release that in the next couple months. If you're an artist, we're currently looking for guest artists for a bonus gallery in that, similar to what we did for the HRP demo. You can check out the details here. Retweets and shares are appreciated.
That's it for now! I might see a few of you next month at Sakura-con, but I'm not yet certain if I'm going. Here's hoping. Most of us will definitely be at Anime Expo in July again this year, though, and if all goes well we should have some big news there. Plus some new merchandise. Please look forward to it.
As always, we appreciate your support. On behalf of the whole team at Alienworks, thank you.

Character Redesigns Completed!
– Wed, Jan 06, 2016 at 10:04:56 PM
As you guys may have seen on Twitter, the last character to be redesigned - Senri - has finally stepped out of the dressing room. Here she is, in all her jacketed glory.
Also, in case you missed it on Twitter a few days ago, Setsuna's looking more refined too.
Now, everyone is all consistent with the cover art. These represent the heroine's final designs (probably!) and how they'll be appearing in the game itself. Once we have a few in-game CG's completed, we'll probably post a couple of those. That won't be for a few months though.
Ending this, here's a look at all the girls next to each other. Have you heard the news that Setsuna's tall? We might wanna make a mention of that in the demo.
